First of all, your child must have:

1.) Back board/poster board

     (which you have to buy which is about 88 cents at 

      Wal-Mart)

2.) Journal (provided my me)

3.) Model (does NOT have to work)

 

Your child must identify a problem.  In this project, the problem was that the ice cream was too hard when it came out of the freezer and that none of the ice cream scoopers worked well. 

 

The "solution" to the "problem"...an ice cream scooper that heats up! 

 

If you notice, our model does not work.  It is simply a large spoon/spade with an electrical cord taped to it.  The idea is there!  The judges can see that it COULD work and that the idea could be great if it were invented. 

 

On the posterboard, the student has his/her name of the invention, a slogan or jingle and the cost if he/she were to sell the actual product in the store.  They also must provide a procedure, materials, and conclusion.  The diagram is a labeled picture and it must be there as well. 

 

We are just improving an idea that is already on the market.  Don't panic!  This is supposed to be fun!  Yes Mom and Dad, it is perfectly okay for you to work with your kid and help him in anyway you can!  HAVE FUN FAMILY!! 

 

Projects will be dropped off before school on the day of the Invention Fair and will be picked up that evening after awards are handed out. Students will not be allowed to take it home after school. If you can not pick it up that evening, then it will be stored in the science lab for a few days.
